My pirate name is: Mad Morgan Kidd

Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate.    Arr!

Buena Vista Social Club Presents Ibrahim Ferrer

I know it's been a long time since I posted...well, I am now.  So let's see...umm...yeah, I've been working a lot.  After the opera finished, I started getting a lot of calls for accompaniment work, so that's good.  I'm rehearsing with people every day this coming week.

I've definitely been salsa-ing in all of my spare time though.  It's a ton of fun.    Somebody needs to open a salsa club in Abilene!  Actually, right now I'm watching ice dancing.  Everybody is dancing to Latin music and it makes me want to dance right now.  The last couple danced to my favorite song on the Willi Colon CD that Miguel gave me.  Crazy!

So, yeah I definitely did not go to church this morning.  I woke up at 4am throwing up...I'm better now, but still not feeling up to par.  I was supposed to be on rotation today playing piano, but obviously didn't make it.  My mom, sister, Grandma, and I went to see Jane Eyre last night.  The ACU theater department did it.  It was pretty good...I could tell i took a lot of work to put on.  The food was extra good last night...too bad I couldn't keep it down!

I'm going to be accompanying Jordanna in two weeks for a competition in San Antonio, so that'll be cool.  Although we won't be hanging out there for long, cuz she has to get back for a concert on Saturday night.  Anyways...

One Day Remains

I'm sitting here chillin' with Bob and a good cup of strong cofee.  Bob is sitting in my lap attempting to help me type.  But not having the proper digits, he's not doing very well -- ok,. I'm putting him down now.

So last night's rehearsal was WAY better than the previous night.  Mostly because I hardly saw Ron (the director from Hell) at all.  I didn't have a lot to do because it was the first night we had the full orchestra, and they needed to rehearse with the vocalists.  So there wasn't a lot of set and drop changing, etc.

I went to Martha's to finish the prop changing assignment at about 10:45pm and got home at about 2:30am.  No...we didn't work on the list the whole time.  After we finished it, Miguel taught us how to salsa!  It was a lot of fun!  Actually, Martha refreshed her memory and then talked on the phone.  I had never done it before, and so I was a little nervous...But he said I did good -- wahoo!

I got an e-mail from the director at Madison, and she is totally confused about how much she's supposed to pay me to accompany her orchestra for solo and ensemble.  She said the school would pay me $25 an hour -- which is ridiculous!  I could rehearse with about 7 or 8 students in an hour...which means that I would be getting paid like $3 per student.  Aacckk!  NO WAY!  I told her that other school's are paying me $20 to $30 dollars PER student.  That's very reasonable: rehearsal, performance, my time (both practicing, rehearsing, and driving), learning new music.  Plus, I should be getting paid for a SKILL.  The skill that I've developed over the years, ya know??  I'm not trying to be a diva or anything -- I just want it to be worth my time and effort!  Anyway, I got a call from the theater director at McMurry, and I can start playing for his musical theater practicum on Friday afternoon.  I'll go from cleaning he and his wife's house that morning, to play for his class, and then go call the first night of the show that evening.  I'm gonna have a busy day!    That's good for me.

OK, I'm gonna get dressed now...that's right, I'm still in my robe.

Peace, Abigail

QUOTES FROM LAST NIGHT:

"Good thing you're not planning on having any more children!" (reply) "Yeah, rly -- there are several things you couldn't do."

"You can't come Wendy.  You're just too old -- you're all shriveled up!"

"Hey, I bought a ticket over here!  And I don't want to see a very large derrier!"

"Wendy! -- you're a French man!...But you're really HOT!"

"I'm trying to figure out why the average cup size of the Lost Boys is a C." (reply) "I think you're actually shooting too low."  (reply)  "No, I was averaging the guys into the equation."

"Backstage, seventh circle of Hell." (Lara answering the phone backstage during rehearal)

I don't have to work today!  YEA!    We're not having rehearsal this evening, only this afternoon...and Lara's working the afternoon shift.  So that's cool.  Last night I left about 20 minutes early to go to the Bean Counter with Michael, Chad, Kendall, Kanaan, April, and Ed.  They had gone to the AHS basketball game, and then picked me up on the way to the coffee shop.  And Michael spotted me a vanilla steamer, so that was cool.  It was nice to hang out with normal people for a change.  It seems like all I've seen for the last two weeks has been crazy people involved in this Peter Pan production.

I'm afraid I may be getting Ann's cold.  I woke up this morning with a sore throat, and I'm a little stuffy.  I'm loading up on Vitamin C and other vitamins/minerals.  Make it go away!

Yesterday when I was cleaning the Craike's house, Philip came home for his lunch break and told me that he may have some gigs for me.  He's the director of the theater dep. at McMurry University, by the way.  Anyway, he said that he may need me for a musical theater practicum class that he's teaching this semester.  That'd be nice.  Not only would it be an easy gig, but it would look good on my resume...the whole working at a university thing.  He also said that he will be needing me to play dinner music for a few dinner theaters coming up.  I love those gigs -- they're so easy!  The spotlight's not on me, I get paid a butt-load of money, and I get to play fun music that I love (Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, light blues/jazz, and other easy listening stuff).  So yeah...

OK, I need to do my Saturday house cleaning before I go practice.  Peace, Abigail

QUOTES OF LAST NIGHT:

"It's gotta be the biggest chicken in the world!...a mean old crow!"

"It's a COMEDY!  It's supposed to be funny!"

"Owen, this is a a lesson for life: There is a fine line between being cute and being a pain in the butt.  You learn that and you'll go far."

"Just pretend you're a tenor...they naturally gravitate to the middle of the stage."

"It's a rave."...  "Where's zee dope?" (said in a French accent)

EDIT:

I wish I could inject certain cast members with testosterone as soon as they walk into rehearsal...Captain Hook "hurt" his hand this evening.  Er...yeah...whatever...

I have a little bit of time before opera...so here I sit.  I picked up the drop plots from the director and took them to the theater.  Then I practiced this afternoon for about 2 1/2 hours (got some fingerings, etc. worked out), and gave Linda and Thomas their copies of the trio scores.  I don't have to be at rehearsal until 8pm, so that's cool.  Lara's gonna be there from 7-8, so I can eat an actual meal before I leave.

I don't really have anything to post...I just thought I would.  I'm planning on wiring my money to UK tomorrow...that's a little scary -- but good.  I will be officially broke though.  I thought I had until Feb.28 to wire the money, but I misunderstood the last letter.  I have to have it in by the end of the month.  Hopefully tomorrow I can figure out how my visa is gonna cost.  Maybe it's free...just kidding...

OK, I'm gonna eat some chicken now...Peace, Abigail

QUOTES OF THE DAY:

"It's not living flesh -- it's make-up."

"I tend to look corpse-like...except when I'm wearing yellow -- then I just look ill.  If I was darker I'd be olive...but I'm not...so I'm just ...ecru."
